Speakers
John has over 30 years of experience in the Canadian federal public service, with the last seventeen in senior executive roles advising Deputy Ministers and Assistant Deputy Ministers in several departments in areas related to data and statistics, natural resource development, climate change, economic development and international relations.
John comes to Info-Tech with a history of leading data and digital transformation efforts across business lines. He has led strategy, operations, business and data/digital transformations for clients in multiple Canadian federal public sector organizations. While at Natural Resources Canada he was named the very first departmental data lead responsible for driving the data transformation agenda. Later he was named the first Chief Data Officer at Environment and Climate Change Canada where he implemented the Chief Data Office organization and developed and implemented the first enterprise-wide Data Analytics Strategy. He was also enterprise Chief Data Officer of the Department of National Defence (DND) and Canadian Armed Forces where he implemented the first enterprise Data Analytics Strategy and led the development of the DND Artificial Intelligence Strategy. John has developed experience across a broad range of departments, addressing challenges to technology improvement and delivery. His additional areas of focus include IT/digital strategy and innovation and how organizations can successfully leverage data for more effective decision making.
Dan Putler is Alteryx’s Chief Data Scientist. At Alteryx, Dan was responsible for developing and implementing the product road map for Alteryx’s first generation, R based, predictive analytics tools. Currently, Dan works with Alteryx customers to develop analytics solutions that require the development of new data science methodologies. He has over 30 years of experience in developing predictive analytics models for companies and organizations that cover a large number of industry verticals, ranging from the performing arts to B2B financial services to manufacturing supply chains. He is co-author of the book Customer and Business Analytics: Applied Data Mining for Business Decision Making Using R, which is published by Chapman and Hall / CRC Press. Prior to joining Alteryx, Dan was a professor of marketing and marketing research at the University of British Columbia’s Sauder School of Business and Purdue University’s Krannert School of Management.
Niraj Bhargava (P.Eng, ICD.D) is the CEO and co-founder of NuEnergy.ai. Niraj leads a team of experts at NuEnergy.ai who are specialized in artificial intelligence (AI) Governance and integration of AI trust measurement software – the Machine Trust Platform (built on a patent-pending methodology). Niraj has over 30 years of experience in technology, business creation and leadership. He is a serial entrepreneur and has successively been the CEO, founder and leader of technology companies – focused on AI, machine learning and deep neural networks. He is currently the Chair of the Innovation Committee of the Board at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. In the past, he has served as a dean, a university entrepreneurship professor and a cleantech CEO raising multiple rounds of venture capital from Silicon Valley. He holds an MBA, a degree in Systems Design Engineering and completed the Directors Education Program leading to his P.Eng & ICD.D designation and has been a prominent speaker globally on sustainability and on ethical AI.
Natasha is a Manager of Data Analytics and Integration at the CRTC.
Martin has over 20 years Business Consulting experience using algorithms and statistical techniques to help his clients. His experience includes 6 years working in Europe for a global consulting firm and was involved in a number of Machine Learning projects as far back as 2002. Prior to moving to Ottawa in 2007 he worked solely in the private sector, including in Europe’s Capital Markets, at board level for a Fortune 500 telecoms provider, several multinational utility companies and now in Ottawa’s Federal and Municipal governments.
For the last 10 years in Ottawa he has been delivering predictive analytic projects for a variety of clients. As Partner of Bronson Analytics he is now focused squarely on projects where data has the potential to unlock critical business insights.
Ellen is a CDMP-certified data management professional, she is the CEO of Slack Consulting Inc., a data management consulting company. She is experienced and savvy in several of the DAMA Knowledge Areas; recently the bulk of her clients’ projects are in Data Governance. She currently fulfills the presidential role at DAMA NCR and performs outreach to external organizations to develop the data community within Ottawa, ON and surrounding areas. She harvests insight from DAMA NCR board members and members alike to determine strategic direction for DAMA NCR to maximize value for its members and to develop and support the local data community.
